Cross-linked polyethylene tanks holds up the best.
The fewer tank penetrations below the liquid level the better.
Tank penetrations below liquid level should be molded or cast
into the product for polyethylene tanks. Tank penetrations should
be carefully inspected inside the tank.
The capability to fully drain the tanks is critical.
Periodic removal of the sludge from the bottom of the tank is
imperative to full tank life.
Side configured access tanks should be avoided.
Rigid connections to the tank below liquid level will lead to
connection failures in direct proportion to the fill and drain
frequency.
Forget sight glasses. Concentrate on reliable electronic level
monitor systems. Light colored or natural tanks with back lighting
will show liquid levels.
Move sodium hypochlorite the shortest distance possible. Get it
into the carrier water as soon as possible.
Limit the use of valves to only those needed to isolate the system.
Realize the potential for total system replacement every five
years.
Do not interconnect tanks (One tank-One pump-One system) this
simplifies system repair and increases operational flexibility.
At the tank connection, use a Safe block or Duo block PVC true
union ball valve. This enables disconnection of the piping downstream
while under pressures of up to 150 p.s.i.
Sodium Hypochlorite is subject to off gassing. Do not trap liquid
in the process piping system. Always give the gas somewhere to
escape. If this condition cannot be avoided flush out the piping
with water prior to isolation. Many leaks and piping failures
are the direct result of off gassing.
Off gassing from sodium hypochlorite is increased by agitation
Pulsing chemical conveyance should be avoided, look for smooth
even flow in the process system.
Threaded NPT connections should be limited and high quality industrial
grade Teflon tape should be used on these joints. No hardware
store stuff. They will still periodically develop leaks.
PVC hose barb fittings will work but KYNAR fittings work better.
